Karl's traditionalist methods of golf course architecture, working with the natural site topography, means that his golf courses are sympathetic to their surroundings. Ancient Sands Golf Course is no different. Karl has carefully analysed the topography of the site to use it to its best natural advantage ensuring undisturbed views across to the lagoon, sea and the mountains.Another of Karl's design objectives is to make the course accessible to people of all golfing abilities, with both professionals and amateurs taking pleasure in the course.

Overall, Karl Litten has been involved with more than 110 golf courses, 50 of which he worked on while with Robert Bon Hagge and Bruce Devlin from 1967 to 1979. After studying Architecture at Ohio University, Karl moved to Florida in 1957. He worked as a surveyor for a civil engineering firm in Miami for 10 years before creating Karl Litten Incorporated.

Amongst Karl’s impressive portfolio is the 27-hole Emirates Golf Club, Dubai host of the world famous PGA European Tour Dubai Desert Classic tournament and the Woman’s European Tour Mobil Ladies Challenge. Karl is well known in Dubai where he has designed three projects for His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Defence Minister of the U.A.E.

In Japan, Karl designed the $100million 18-hole Aoki Golf Club at Hyogo with golfing legend Isao Aoki, the Bato Country Club, Green Academy and the Tanegashima Golf Club.

Karl has collaborated with a number of well known golf course designers throughout his career including Gary Player, Joey Sindelar, Bruce Devlin and Isao Aoki amongst others.
